scanner.bike is a search and price-comparison engine for new mountain bikes. It collects the catalogues of European retailers, works out when two listings describe the same model and build, and shows who sells it for how much.
Anyone shopping for a specific mountain bike today opens six or seven sites. Every shop writes the same bike its own way — brand, family, build and model year change shape from one catalogue to the next — so there is no simple way to tell whether that bike costs less somewhere else, or whether the size you need is still in stock anywhere.
Matching listings to a single canonical product is the hard part of the problem, and it is the part scanner.bike is built around.
The scope widens only once comparison works well on a single category.
From the product feeds retailers already publish through affiliate networks, and from direct agreements with shops that would rather hand over their catalogue themselves. Both are structured data the retailer chose to distribute — the same feed that already goes to the shopping comparison channels.
Feeds refresh a few times a day at best, so a cached price is never treated as a live one. Every price carries the time it was captured, and it is re-checked against the retailer's own page before a visitor is sent there.
No scraping. At launch the catalogue is built only from affiliate feeds and direct merchant agreements. No retailer site is crawled for prices.
scanner.bike earns affiliate commission: when a visitor clicks an offer and buys from the retailer, the retailer pays the site a percentage of the sale. The visitor pays the same price either way.
Results are ranked by price and availability. If commission ever influences that ranking, it will be stated visibly on every results page, as European comparison-tool transparency rules require.
No toolbars or browser extensions, no coupon or voucher injection, no cashback incentives, no paid search on retailer brand terms. Traffic is organic and direct.

scanner.bike is built by Dario Pedicini, a cyclist and the head of a software development lab. It started from a problem he kept running into himself: looking for one specific bike and having no way to tell where it cost less.
